Piano Lessons – About

Summary

I teach piano at the student’s home and at the Shepherd Music School in Rogers.  Lessons are billed monthly based on a full semester commitment. For more information, please contact me via my Contact form for in-home study, or the Shepherd Music School for lessons at Central United Methodist Church in Rogers.

Semester Length

Each term is 18 weeks in length, from August to December, and January to May.  A shorter summer lesson term is also offered. The semester ends when all lessons are given, including make-up lessons.  Make-up lessons must be finished by the end of the semester.

Lesson Cancellation and Make-Up Lessons

Each semester:  Two make-up lessons are guaranteed for excused absences.

Make-up lessons are only given for excused absences, where I’m notified at least 24 hours in advance, for planned absences; or in emergencies, at least one hour prior to the lesson.

Please contact me by email or phone. Please don’t text (SMS) to my phone number since it won’t work!

Practice Expectations

A good rule of thumb is 5 days of practice for the lesson time.  For half-hour lessons, this would be five days of 30 minutes practice per day.  For very young students, this may be cut back to 15 or 20 minutes per day.

Professional Affiliations

I have been a member of the Northwest Arkansas Music Teachers Association (NAMTA) for four years, and am a member of the affiliated Arkansas State Music Teachers Association (ASMTA) and the national organization, Music Teachers National Associations (MTNA).

I am honored to be one of the presenters of NAMTA this year, giving a lecture-demonstration of the Arrau technique on Saturday, March 10, 2018.

Festivals

There are two festivals annually in which you can participate, as a result of my ASMTA membership.  It’s hoped everyone, except for early beginners, will participate in the Sonatina Festival!

  • NAMTA Sonatina Festival, Saturday, November 11, 2017, NWACC in Bentonville
  • ASMTA Region One Festival, Saturday, April 14, 2018, University of Arkansas in Fayetteville

Public Recitals

In coordination with the Festivals above, there are recital possibilities:

  • Sunday, November 5, 2017, First UMC, Springdale
  • Sunday, April 8, 2018, First Presbyterian Church, Springdale
