It’s said that you can’t officially call something an annual event until you do it at least twice. With that, let me present a summary of our Second Annual Halloween Piano Party. We always seem to have some type of drama before starting. Last year, we couldn’t get into the building because the door code didn’t work. This year, the code worked perfectly!

Music Apps for Beginners

Summary

Several years ago, I set out to find music apps I could heartily recommend to my beginners. Two of the biggest challenges for beginners are on-the-staff reading and rhythm, so I was looking to find the best app for each. I also wanted to find the best metronome app, for those that prefer an app to owning a stand-alone metronome.

Halloween Piano Party 2018

We had a lot of fun at the Halloween Piano Party, but not all of it was scheduled. Samuel the Squirrel didn’t appear as he did during my recital at the church two weeks ago. This time, we couldn’t get into the building; the code for the keypad didn’t work.

Looking Back at First Friday

Introduction

My year-long project of preparing to host a booth at First Friday in Downtown Bentonville came to pass last night. It was geared to increase enrollment at Shepherd Music School, where I teach. Note: Shepherd Music School no longer exists, but I continue to teach where it was located. I won’t lie, it was a tough process and I was near the breaking point a few times along the way. Our booth was very simple, yet coordinating all of the pieces and people consumed time and energy beyond any prediction.
